DEAR INDIA,
SAFTY FIRST LEAVE THE REST On August 2, 2018, An eight-month pregnant woman from Satara was allegedly gang-raped by eight men in Sangli/Mumbai, Press release says during the last five years more than 26,000 girls and women went missing from Mumbai alone, out of which 24,444 were found and 2,264 are yet to be traced, revealed the Maharashtra government data on July 15, 2018 a month before the 72nd Independence Day of India. Apart from that In India, there are a number of evil cultural traditions that account for violence against women. These include female infanticide and prenatal sex selection, early marriage, dowry-related violence, female genital mutilation (FGM), “honour” crime, and maltreatment of widows. It’s alarming the ears of every responsible citizen of the world that women safety in India is a big concern. But In India, great tradition and culture where women are given most respected place in the society from the ancient time. Women are given the place of Goddess. Even now exceptional women are found working in all fields like aeronautics, space, politics, banks, schools, sports, businesses, army, police, and many more. In the last few years, crime against women in Delhi has increased to a great extent. It is found that every two out of three women are suffering sexual harassment and women are losing their confidence in police and authorities. 80% of the women in national capital have fear regarding safety. And also women are harassed day time at their home, working places, or other places like street, club, etc.I think, the reason of sexual harassment is the lack of gender-friendly environment and improper functional infrastructure such as consumption of alcohol and drugs in open area, lack of adequate lighting, safe public toilets, sidewalks, lack of effective police service, lack of properly working helpline numbers, etc. There is an urgent need to understand and solve this problem of women safety so that they can also grow equally like men in Heritage India. Every woman has the right to be treated with dignity, Leaders Work for it. We trust that you will. Mrudula Poguri

Prime minister mahoday,
You send us messages "बेटी है वरदान, इसका करो सम्मान। बेटी बचाओ बेटी पढ़ाओ।" but you are silent when the same daughters of the land are violated, when they are assaulted, even killed. Can you please talk about muzaffarpur, bihar. Talk about landlessness, about lawlessness , about lynchings, about state complicity, about silence... About exploitation... Talk about women, talk about the violence we face. Thank you Kamayani, Bihar Woman security is one of the major issue that impacts everyone who lives in India. Please sont juat talk but lets also take some concrete steps and implement it on the ground to keep our daughters, mothers and sisters safe.
- Jayesh Please talk about gendered violence and how to stop the impunity for the perpetrators.
Mr. PM
it's high time to make India safe for girls. Please make it work. Dear Mr. prime minister.
On one hand there is sharp decline in girl child sex ratio and on other hand they are sexually abused and done to death. Both these crimes are two sides of same coin. Above all this ,our leaders give the slogans such as "Save the girl child and educate them," as if by this slogan they have full filled there duties. The main problem lies in the fact no efforts are made to remove or ratify the patrachial thinking either by education or by Governmental propaganda . In Barmer a seven year old girl was raped and strangulated to death and horrifyingly she was rape even after death. Same case is repeated in Mandsaur, MP. In last 4 to 5 years the rape incidents with minors has almost doubled. NCRB reports confirm 40 percent increase in minor's rape and in 13 percent cases they were below 7 years. Madhya Pradesh has maximum number of child abuse and Rajasthan is on third position. In 2012 POCSO Act was brought and this year Death penalty was included for rape below 12 years child. As per National crime Report Bureau during last three years 3897 cases of child abuse is reported and 27 children below the age of 6 years are sexually assaulted. - Tara Ahluwalia, Bhilwara Dear Prime Minister,
We live in hyper polarized times and every issue is seen by too many of us as being a zero sum game. Some issues, however are not at all difficult for us to find agreement on. Like the rights of all Indians to enjoy a life of freedom, free from fear and persecution and the rights of women and girls to live life free from the threat of violence, rape and abuse. It should not be hard for us to speak loudly and firmly condemning every instance of abuse or violence. Much less for the leader of the country. So can we implore you to speak unequivocally on these issues and then follow up the speech part with actions by your Government to secure and restore these fundamental rights to the girls, women and minorities of India? - Srinadh Dear Mr. PM,
India is currently so unsafe for girls, women and gender queer people that even children have lost their innocence. However all the acts of violence against women, are met with not only a deafening silence from you and your leadership, but also celebration when such violence is perpetrated by your party people. Are these the 'achhe din' you had promised? Will we hear from you about violence against women this independence day and how you plan to tackle it within your own party? - A Woman, San Francisco Dear Modiji,
Please given the recent horrific news about sexual violence of young girls in state-supported child shelters, and general increase in incidence on rapes, can you make it a point to raise this issue of safety and security of women from the pulpit of Red Fort. Also, initiate a country-wide inspection of all state-supported and private child shelters for any kind of sexual violence. Dear Prime Minister,
Since the time of Nirbhaya instead of violence against women going down it has escalated. The cases that keep coming to the fore are appalling and gruesome. It makes me question why should any woman in India feel safe. As 50% of the nation’s population, women need an answer as to what does it take to make it safe for us. What will you do? I hope to hear about this in your Independence Day speech! Thanks, - A Concerned Citizen |
